‘What a load of tosh’: Manchester Metrolink scooter ban

Manchester Metrolink’s ban on mobility scooters aboard its trams continues to rankle riders who rely on the devices. Local media have continued to shine a spotlight on the policy, as in this July 22 article in the Salford Advertiser.

Kudos to reporter Ailsa Cranna, who tells a powerful tale about Ted Edwards, a longtime globe-trekker who’s now grounded because the scooter he uses in the wake of a devstating stroke isn’t permitted aboard the trams.

Metrolink apparently claims the move is designed to minimise “unacceptable” safety risks to passengers.

Mr. Edwards’ reply?

“What a load of tosh. I suppose the safest way to operate a tram service is to ban passengers altogether.”
